Just had a disagreement with a friend about this book vs. Wild. I liked this book, but was so frustrated with the foolishness of the writer in Wild, while my friend loved Wild, but thought the writer & her husband were making ridiculous choices in The Salt Path & she couldn't even finish it. I'm wondering if anyone else has read both & how would you compare them?

On the PCT strangers happily help each other out whenever they can. On the SWCP, on the other hand, strangers criticize you for being a tramp and tell you to move on because "we don't like drunks in our town." I'm hoping this is the difference between trail culture and tourist culture, because I'd hate to think it was a USA/UK difference (not being that familiar with how folks are to strangers in the UK).(less)
