I began running as a result of this book. I had no pretext to read this other than it was recommended by a friend. I think that it is remarkable that this book got me running as in no way does Murakami attempt to persuade the reader to start running. Likewise, he gives virtually no advice on how to start or on technique (other that stand tall, relax, breath).
His method of inspiration is so underwhelming, his brand of positivity so melancholic, yet his words leave you (I mean me), simultaneously, feeling so pathetically ordinary and capable at the same time.

One of a few books I read more than once, and sooner or later I will read it again, somehow I find it timeless. It is about running as much as about daily persistence and essentially how one does things in general.

His depiction of the act of running is great. How he narrates about a marathon, and his stories about the ultra-marathon are all great. He is an extreme sports-maniac, and makes you think running is wonderful ( I don't deny this, but I lack his motivation). The limits breaking and a continuous process of self-overcoming - just WOW. I started again to run just before reading the book, and made me enjoy running more. It's great after all to be in self-motion:)

Ever since I became I runner myself, I've felt there was something more to it than.. well aimless wandering. This book inspired me to write about my own experience with running and spirituality:

You don't often hear about running spoken in relation to mental or spiritual health. It's an interesting topic.

It made me feel lazy and fat in comparison

even though I am a horrible runner (I came in last once at a 10k) this book made me feel like part of the club because I can COMPLETELY relate to the feeling described in the first chapters of the book. If you like to run, you just do it, not always to race, but as a daily meditation

Like going for a run.

It pissed me off because I read a translation and it is badly done :(

Happy, relaxed and surprisingly like I could relate to it! I always wanted to read about the way somebody else lives and this book completely piqued my interest.
