Some1in Argentina asked Sebastien de Castell:

Hey there sebastien! I realy love your books and i haven't read greatcoats yet. question 1. wich order would you prefer to read your books? asking because im recomemting it to a friend and we dont know where to start. 2. i love how much imagination you used to write spellslinger series and i felt inspired by it. What can i do to get this amazing creativity for a book im writing? Saludos (Regards) from Argentina

Sebastien de Castell Hi There,

1. The two series are set in the same world but on different continents, so you can read either the Greatcoats or Spellslinger first and it won't be a problem. The Greatcoats is adult fantasy and Spellslinger is young adult, so perhaps that will be the deciding factor for your friend?

2. The best way to bring creativity to your work is to make it as truthful as possible. A lot of new writers (myself included) tend to try to write like others but ultimately our best writing is always when we write from our own voice—letting the characters be reflections of the different parts of our own personalities without trying to hide ourselves. So bring as many of your own feelings and experiences into the story (while making them as fantastical as you need to in order to serve the story) and trust that what feels important to you will also connect with readers.

Hope that helps!

Best,

Sebastien
