It's like the Nike slogan - Just Do It. Read a ton of books in your genre, learn from already successful writers. Write out your thoughts, then find some independent Beta Readers to evaluate your work and fix it. Learn to love your editors (a strange thought, as they slash your work with a machete sometimes). Write with abandon, edit with a machete. Get it perfect, or as much as possible. Then put it out there.
