Samantha asked Huntley Fitzpatrick:

One of the things I absolutely love about your books is how all of your characters are so different! They all have their unique personalities, which makes them so realistic. And I don't think many authors can do that. So how did you come up with these characters and their personality traits? Are they based on people you knew? Or how did you come up with them?

Huntley Fitzpatrick Hi Samantha!

Thank you for writing. I'm glad to hear you feel this way about my characters--that they seem real to you. They certainly do to me--in fact, they sort of 'come as they are'--have all their traits and characteristics, and I learn about them as I write (I think a LOT of authors write like this--we just gradually discover as it goes). I never base characters on people I know--partly because they have their own stories which are theirs to tell, and partly because I like the characters to do unexpected things, and that is almost impossible when you base them on a real person.

Thank you again for writing, and for your kind note and curiousity. Warmly, Huntley
