What made you want to be a writer? And what is your favorite song?
Tracey Garvis Graves
Hi Grace,
I've always been a voracious reader and had thought about writing a book but had never actually attempted it. Then, when both of my kids were in school and I had gone back to work, I started thinking about it again. I decided to put it on my bucket list and see if I could cross it off. I began getting up every day at 5:00 and I wrote for an hour and a half before going to my day job. After about 18 months of daily progress, I had written my first full-length novel, On the Island. I'm happy to say that I've been writing ever since and now writing novels is my day job.
My favorite song is "Africa" by Toto. It's my ring tone and all my friends can answer this question about me without hesitation. LOL. I'm also a huge classic rock/70s music fan. I especially love The Eagles and Elton John, and music is a huge creative motivator for me. I can't listen to it while I'm actually writing, but I plot a lot of my books in the car while I'm driving and listening to music. Also, I often have no clue what's going on musically with current pop music because I rarely listen to it. My kids are now 17 and 20 (and driving around in their own cars) so I don't turn over to the pop stations much.
Thanks for your questions!
Best,
Tracey
