Moha asked T. Coraghessan Boyle:

For a school project, I am analyzing different symbols in your inspiring novel When The Killings done. Now I would love to know, what the shipwreck scene at the beginning means to you and why you named it after Beverly? Greetings from Germany

T. Coraghessan Boyle Many thanks, Moha. I'm afraid I can't answer your question directly, because an author should never make interpretive comments about his or her own work, as such comments tend to kill independent observations. Just by posing the question, though, I can see that you already have a theory. Great. Run with it. BTW: the opening scene was inspired by an actual event.
