Joseph Delaney We can only guess about some of this. On one level, a ‘ward’ is an area of land, thus the Wardstone marks the position of this on the hills. Then, lost in history, there was a man named Ward who (maybe?) did something to save the whole world. In terms of prophecy Tom Ward does bind the Fiend – so that comes true. But he does not die there. It is his master, the spook John Gregory, who dies, So, prophecies do not always come fully true but some elements can as in this case.
