Anna
Anna asked:

How is this book compared to "The History of the Third Reich" series by Richard Evans? Which one shall I read as someone who only has limited knowledge of Nazi Germany from the classroom?

Alan Northcote For a starter, I'd recommend this one - I read it when I was 16 years old, and it got me interested in the subject for the next forty years, so far!

Richard Evans' series are excellent, and very detailed, but this may be better read first, and is written by someone who was close to the events at the time.
Will Connelly As a Historian who specializes in this period of history, this is hands down the go to book for a history of Nazi Germany. If I had a nickel for every time I have cited Shirer in my collegiate career....I'd have a pocket full of nickels!
Cynthia Solomon i haven't read the series by richard evans but have read the rise and fall of the third reich.. it is unputdownable and gives a clear authentic picture of how hitler came into being.. his mein kampf and how a vagabond became the most fearsome creature on earth.. his sycophants(goering, goebbels..), his unstrategic fall at stalingrad and his last hour alive. for more easy reads about the nazi germany you can go for leon uris' books: exodus, mila 18, armageddon: a novel of berlin, mitla pass, qb vii..
Anne I have not read Richard Evans but William Shirer’s report is first hand and impeccable scholarship. His diaries also are valuable.
Now I want to read Evans!
Lori I haven't read the Evans book, but The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is one of the definitive books on Nazi Germany written by a man who witnessed Hitler's rise to power. I highly recommend this one.
Charles Shacklette I've not actually read either but I would highly recommend The Nazi Dictatorship by Karl Dietricht Bracher. Considered the definitive work on the 3rd Reich, tracing its roots deep into German history - fascinating.
Vincent Centeno Yes, I have read Uris' QB VII and Exodus. Both very unputdownable.
