It's from Winnie-the-Pooh -- the good, old-fashioned animated ones by good, old-fashioned Disney. Tigger says it as one of his catchphrases - "TTFN! Ta Ta For Now!"
I adore Tigger, so it became a favorite sign off for me. And it just stuck!
