Elan Mastai I started writing my first novel in July 2014. I sold the manuscript to my publisher in October 2015. I worked with my editors on revising it until June 2016. And it was published in hardcover in February 2017. But I'd been working as a screenwriter since the year 2000, so there were many years of developing as a writer before I turned to novels.

I really enjoyed the audiobook and noticed you narrated it as well. I thought the performance matched the tone of the book perfectly. It actually sounded a lot like the way Ira Glass and others tell stories on the podcast "This American Life." Was that the voice you had in your head for Tom while writing, or were you coached on it later before recording? And will you do the narration for your next book too?
