There is a trans person in it. There is at least one Latina in it. She describes those people. The descriptions of them portray them very positively. I liked even loved their characters. One was pretty sketchy but worthy of respect. If you think this book is "full of" racism and transphobia I do not have an answer for you.

I´m a latino and I didn´t felt it was racist at all! And about the transphobic thing, I believe it wasn´t that way. It showed the discomfort Beth felt towards the guy and it´s a normal reaction. She was surprised, not horrified by him.
Brandon-Tandra Whaley
This book was neither of those things.
Leca Good
You seem to the be the only one that feels that way so I guess site your source???

I did feel the transphobia. That scene when Beth realizes Miss Sally is a trans woman was bad. Weirdly written and even I felt somewhat uncomfortable. But I think the scene when Marcus meets her and uses the pronoun 'he' to refer to her tells us more about him as a person and what a shitty, abusive, discriminatory person he is
But i'm curious to know why you think the latino characters were mistreated!

I agree with your observation. Definitely transphobia, sexism, and misogyny (not just from the characters it “should” have been coming from). There was absolutely no reason to keep “inspecting” Miss Sally.
Wendy
Because it doesn’t have those things. It is a story of battered women and their spouses.
Sophie Caliendo
I'm confused. Jeffrey and Sabina or Beth. Marcus/Beth?

If it was there, it wasn't prominent, and I am very sensitive to these topics.

This is an adult read and so it is more realistic. Some people are that way in real life and henceforth book characters can have those flaws also.
YA books are more so rainbows and unicorns with a perfect characters. I rate books as a whole and not because the villain is transphobic. I would think that it helps build up his bad character. Therefore, I liked the ending more. You are being way to sensitive.

Where was racism and transphobia? Please let me know. Marcus was a disgusting human being, of course, he's transphobic amongst. other things. Racism because of Martina's history?!?
Sara Cooper
I saw no evidence of racism or transphobia.
