Just write. If you're anything like me, you'll make every mistake there is when writing that first book, but practice is a hugely important component of improvement (despite what Allen Iverson might think).
There are a lot of people out there who are happy to say what you should or shouldn't do, and I agree that it's important to know the 'rules' of writing before you break them... but the most important thing is to just keep writing.
