At first I loved Chaol but as the series progressed I realized that they actually don't make that much sense together. I think their destined for different things and it might just be me but I don't think their relationship can realistically pick up where it left off. He obviously doesn't accept the Aelin part of her and I thinks that while being away from him she has kind of grown into a different person, as has he.
Rowan is a way better match for her. They understand each other on a much deeper level and have the strongest relationship in the whole book. Plus it felt like -through out the story- little hints that there might be a bit more to his feelings for her were being dropped. For example when he was so serious about her not dating one of his cadre.(less)
