Do you have to read Borne first in order to understand/enjoy Dead Astronauts? Or can the latter stand alone?

You may not understand Dead Astronauts even if you do read Borne first.
Russell Alderton
You should read Borne anyway, its totally brilliant. I don't say this lightly either, as someone who gets really annoyed with bad scifi i'm totally stoked that this universe is carrying on.

I highly recommend reading both Borne and Strange Bird before Dead Astronauts. Firstly, because they're great. But secondly because I think I'd be lost if I hadn't read those first.

there is a story called " the situation" its an amazing story and you'll get a sense of all the characters and their relationships alot better. thats the prequel of bourne
Café
No need to read Borne. It stands by itself.

GFJHDKALHDAL I had no idea this was part of a series and bought Dead Astronauts on a whim fuck me

I view Borne as the hard work to understand what unfolds in Dead Astronauts. It's a conventional, linear narrative, all tightly boxed up, and Dead Astronauts explodes it.
Aimee Dars
You don't need to read Borne first, but it does introduce the universe of Dead Astronauts, so you're reading experience might be enhanced if you read Borne.

I was not aware that Dead Astronauts was a sequel until I saw this question. I came here to write a bad review for the book: in summary, nothing makes any sense, no reason to care about the characters, and so forth. Now, I'm getting a strong sensation that all of that is exactly what I'm missing from not having read Borne. I would strongly advise anyone considering reading Dead Astronauts to reade Borne first.

I read Dead Astronauts first, then I read Strange Bird, then Borne. And now I’m going back to read Dead Astronauts again because only NOW does it make any sense at all.
Scott Brandon
I would also recommend reading the novella The Strange Brid. before Dead Astronauts.
Oleg Chernyshenko
I think you have to. Dead Astronauts expanding the story and has references to many events from Borne.
