Melissa Oyler asked Chris Grabenstein:

I've always been curious about the writing process when teaming up with another author. Do you hash out a general outline so you both know where the story is going then work out each chapter together. Or... do you like to feed off one another by alternating chapters & seeing what develops as you build off the previous chapter? Does it depend more on who your co-author is?

Chris Grabenstein It depends on who you are working with. With my wife J.J. for SHINE! we spent several months working out an extremely detailed outline. Then I would do a rough draft of one of our chapters and, once we had something to react to, we'd rework it together. With James Patterson, he does a very detailed outline and I keep in touch every month with about 10,000 words of first draft material. He then does the final draft by himself.
