How do you get inspired to write?

Janet H. Swinney Variously. There's no one way. Something, something glimpsed from a train, the detail from a building, a snippet of conversation, a turn of phrase, a name, or a scene unfolding may catch my attention, and I'll be curious about it, wondering about its back story or how matters will develop. That's the start of a gestation period. It may be a long time before a story actually emerges. One thing's for certain: I can't write to order, or on a given theme.
