Cryztal asked C.J. Redwine:

Did you create your Defiance characters based on real people you know or did you just creatively come up with them?

C.J. Redwine My characters always arrive in my mind as fully formed people. I just have the delightful task of discovering who they are. I'm constantly observing people, how they move and interact, what they fear, what they love, and how both of those drive their choices. I think my characters are a collection of things I've observed, but they are their own individuals. While I might pull a detail or two from someone I know (for example, Oliver's gentle nature and love of baking are from my beloved Grandpa P.), for the most part, I find it awfully distracting to have my characters resemble anyone I know.
