Goodreads asked David Odle:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

David Odle The biggest fault I've encountered with so many aspiring writers is that they actually don't write. They talk about writing, they want to be writers, but when the rubber hits the road, they're not writing anything.
The best thing you can do as an aspiring writer is finish the story. Don't get distracted, don't ask people what they think before it's done, just write it. Finish it. Then finish another one.
The two most common things to avoid - constantly working on the same book, or writing one book and never writing another one.
Finish the story!
