Goodreads asked Sakura Nobeyama:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Sakura Nobeyama My father was an attorney in Tokyo. Of course, he never told me very much about his cases, but I watched him closely and followed some of his noteworthy cases (especially the criminal cases!!). One day when I was a teenager, I was discussing a family matter with him that I found embarrassing. I wanted him to make it go away, telling him that I thought it could bring a shadow over our family name. "All families have secrets, my dear," was his reply. Since that I day, I learned little by little just how true those words are. The Watanabe Name is about a man who struggles all his life with one of those terrible secrets.
