I agree it's for university level and up. There's some serious dysfunction going on in Marianne's family and in her sex life and younger readers might not be able to relate.

Sex was definitely an ongoing motif in the book, it wasn't graphic, but it was straightforward. As far as age goes, as long as you can handle the sex maturely and not be thrown off by that then you should be fine.
I'm 19 right now and just finished the book a few days ago. If I read this book earlier in my life I don't think I would've really been empathetic towards the complexity of their relationship, and would've let the sex completely overrun my perception of the novel. Generally, I think this book is 18+, but if you're interested in the novel, just try it out and see how it goes :)

i think it is an 18+ book but if you want to try it out at a younger age (13 and up) i think you could try it because the amazon store rating is 13+
