Peekay, as Sharon stated, is the main Character in The Power of One. You never really find out his real name because the nickname is given to him quite early in the book. The nickname is derived from bullies and uses the letters P and K which stands for "Piss Kop" in Afrikaans. The author has mentioned that the story is about his life, however, he also mentions that parts of the story did not happen or have been exaggerated. Definitely a fantastic read.

Peekay is the main character in the book, who you follow from childhood to adulthood. Trust me, if you read the book you will remember that name forever. This story is one that truly stands the test of time.

There are parallels between the fictional Peekay (the narrator and main character) and the author of the book (Bryce Courtenay). Both were orphaned at a young age; both went to a nasty boarding school; both grew up in Lebombo, among black African people. In other words, though this is a piece of fiction, it is semi-autobiographical, drawing a lot from the author's lived experience. A stunning story well told
Joy Rowden
I believe he is just the protagonist of the story.
