Heather Child Think about why you want to write - there's a misconception that being an author is glamorous and lucrative, but unless you're J K Rowling or Dan Brown, that doesn't apply.

Once you know what you want to get out of writing, get to know your material inside out - the characters, the settings, the backstory. That way your writing will be fluid; it will come from inside the story, and be convincing to readers.
