Goodreads asked Merren Tait:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Merren Tait Read as much as you can. Reading is a very valuable learning experience, especially if you also read outside of the genre you write in. It will help you acquire a unique writing voice.
The best thing I did as an inexperienced writer was get professional feedback on each serious redraft. Hire a developmental editor or a manuscript assessor. It is a bit of a cost, but it is absolutely money well spent. You can have the best cover, the best blurb, the best marketing plan in the world, but if the product is no good, you won't find an audience.
