A Goodreads user asked Kasie West:

So you've mentioned that a big part of your editing process is cutting out the boring parts/sections. I'm just wondering if you could elucidate a bit on that. What exactly do to the boring parts/sections look like to you? How many of them do you typically remove in an average re-write?

Kasie West If I'm rereading my own work and I find that I'm bored in a section, I cut it and either replace it with something more conflict driven or interesting, or cut it altogether and realize it doesn't need to be replaced with anything. The first draft for me is getting from point A to point B and sometimes I realize that I filled in too many parts getting from A to B. But I don't worry about that when I'm drafting. I just work on getting to the end and when I'm rereading, that's when I realize some things in the story were unnecessary or slow. And I don't know how many I typically remove, it's different for each book. :)
