Goodreads asked Elizabeth Bell:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Elizabeth Bell I started writing the Lazare Family Saga 26 years ago, so it's been a LOOONG time since that first spark kindled. I honestly cannot remember how the characters first took shape, though I remember some previous incarnations. I do know my parents took me on a trip to Charleston, South Carolina when I was eight years old. I adored the city and surrounding Lowcountry: the gardens, the architecture, the food, the wildlife, the beaches, how history was all around me. I knew I wanted to set a story there. That desire simmered for 6 years till I began the first draft of the Lazare Family Saga at the age of 14.
