Writing is an art, yet it's not observable. People cannot make a snap decision about your work without truly engaging with it. All my siblings have an observable art; painting, sculpture, design, drawing. But to read a novel, that takes time and dedication before anyone can say it stinks. That way, I'm buffered from the disappointment.
