How did you about a spy's daily routines. The people Kate had to hire, the scooter, the routes she tried to vary every day? If you were an expat you would know about the community and the frustrations of living in another country but you would not know about being a spy.

Chris Pavone I've read a lot of books--memoirs, history, fiction--about the CIA and intelligence operatives, providing me with enough facts to make me comfortable just making things up.

My book club read The Expats as our August 2014 selection. About half-way through the novel there is a scene where the music “Hotel California" is playing in the background, with its ominous lyrics “you can never leave.” We recalled this scene at the end of the book, wondering if any of the characters could successfully “leave”. While the question is left intriguingly open, any thoughts you'd be willing to share?
