Julie Downie
Julie Downie asked Tracey Garvis Graves:

Hi, I'm reading The Girl He Used To Know now, and loving it. I don't want it to end! I notice that you mention that Jonathan was from Waukegan, where I was born and raised. Did you grow up in that area or was Waukegan a random choice of towns?

Tracey Garvis Graves Hi, Julie,

Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to hear that you're loving The Girl He Used to Know. Regarding the choice of Waukegan, I did not grow up there and have never lived there, but if memory serves (I wrote this book in early 2017), I wanted a town close enough to Annika's hometown so that it made sense for him to give her a ride home over break. I live in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, so I often choose other Midwestern towns for locations in my novels. But sometimes I set them far from the Midwest. It all depends on the story. :)

Thanks!

Best,

Tracey
