How do you come up with the idea for companion novels? Like which characters will be in the novel and what it'll be about?
Kasie West
I guess the same way I come up with most of my ideas. I have a character and I think about what conflict in that character's life would make an interesting story. For Fame, Fate and the First Kiss it was easy to pick the character because to me Lacey was a very big voice in Love, Life and the List. She was easy to imagine and I thought it would be fun to tell her story as an aspiring actress. The third book in the companion novel series was a little bit harder for me to figure out who it was going to be about. So that's why I took a minor character from Love, Life and the List and made her a side character in the book. Then we still get to see and hear about our favorite characters from book one and two but I didn't have to try to invent a story for a more prominent character in either book 1 or 2. I don't know if that makes any sense, but that was my thinking.

I read On The Fence and I really loved it! And that was it, I'm one of your fans and I'm actually looking forward to your new book The Fill-In Boyfriend and I'll start reading The Distance Between us soon. So my question is, are you planning to write about teenage-love or a summer romance soon? Or maybe something about falling in love with a best friend because that's one of the things I'm really interested in.
