Can it be read as a standalone? It's part of the Grishaverse series, so i'm confused.

So while you could technically read it as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows duology before reading King of Scars. It'll make understanding it, the world, powers, etc. easier, and appreciation for the world and characters greater, at least in my opinion.
