Do I need to read Reamde before reading this one?

Nancy Ball I would recommend it. Reamde has wonderful characters in it, many of whom continue in Fall. However, Fall doesn't really flesh out any of its characters. Sophia has the best characterization; she isn't in Reamde. It's very helpful to know their backstories. (I also thought it a much better book - that fact helped carry me through Fall)
Sarah It is not necessary to read Reamde before reading this book. I'd alert you to the idea that this is not the Stephenson book to start with. It's not a sequel, specifically, to any other book, though it does mention characters from several other novels. This book stands alone with a few oblique references to Reamde, Anathem, Cryptonomicon, and the Baroque Cycle.
Barry Bozeman Definitely not a prerequisite but Fall should lead you to Reamde - another Neal Stephenson tour de force.
Garrett Agree with @Zachary, but if you have not you should put it on the list to read.
Zachary No. But, it does feature many of the same characters.
