For years, I've been fascinated by the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and AP journalist Lorena Hickok--I'm planning to write about it. My primarily research includes the letters held at the FDR Library in Hyde Park and many secondary sources. This fits into my other Depression-era research, so I'm not exactly starting from scratch. Interesting pair!

Are you familiar with the small towns in Wharton Cty? When we moved there in 1981 many grandmothers still spoke only Germanic languages, and the little phone book had more names that started with Z than with S or C. The local tale was of a couple of ships of politically active families emigrating to New Orleans, swept off their travel plan by a bad storm. They walked inland to black dirt and settled.
