Hello Mark, I am enjoying Shot All to Hell immensely. Nearly finished. I was watching Gunfight at the OK Corral this morning 1957 with Lancaster and Douglas. I wanted to ask you a question involving the Earps and Holiday. With Arizona and New Mexico being neighbors geographically, did the Lincoln County War reach into the lives of Wyatt or Holiday? Did Pat Garret and Wyatt Earp ever cross paths? Thank you! Andrew.

Mark Lee Gardner Hi, Andrew. It would be cool if Garrett did cross paths with Wyatt or Holliday, but it doesn't appear that they did. Pat Garrett arrived at Fort Sumner, New Mexico, early in 1878, and we know that Wyatt and Doc were in Las Vegas, New Mexico, in 1879, so I suppose it's possible. However, Garrett seems to have stuck to the Fort Sumner area for the first year or two after his arrival. Garrett could have met Earp in later years, but there is no record of such a meeting.

Hello Mr. Gardener, Just watched the newly released film, The Kid, sort of fact & fiction account of Billy the Kid and Pat Garret. I was thinking of your classic To Hell on a Fast Horse (all time fav!) through out & I remember asking you who did you think portrayed the most accurate Billy the Kid. You wrote Val Kilmer in Vidal's Billy the KId. My question for you is who portrayed Pat Garret most accurately? Thanks!!!!

Hello Mr. Gardner its Andrew again. I apologize for the bother but I am just fascinated with this subject matter of the west and its outlaws. I read some of Mr Hanson's The Kid as it appeared in my alumni college magazine & where Mr Hanson's teaches, Santa Clara University. He writes that Jesse James did meet up with Bonney in Las Vegas to see if he would like to join his gang. Did the two actually meet? THX again!
