The opening chapter of The Devil You Know is actually (loosely) based on true events that happened not far from where I live. I know the woman that survived the trauma and I've always admired her - So, naturally, I wanted to incorporate her into one of my books. I got the idea last fall as I was driving past the Tuscarawas River and she popped into my mind. I got to thinking of how incredibly strong and brave she was and I started jotting down ideas... and it just took off. Though the story is entirely fictional, there is some truth to it
