I recently read the Haunting of Hill House and was a little disappointed to be honest. I watched it after watching the netflix series, and I thought it was one of the rare exceptions to the rule where the book is always better. I didn't think the book was terrible just average. Is The Lottery and We Have Always Lived in the Castle of a similar style and quality or are they superior reads?

Elise L I really did enjoy The Lottery. I think it's a great quick read and it really leaves you thinking.
Harry Collier IV People who find the book better than the film are people who tend to have read the book first.
I do this a lot with Poirot. I have noticed that if I read the story before watching the TV adaptation is always disappointing. If I watch one before reading I wonder why the story couldn't have been as great as what David Succhet did on the screen.
To answer your question read this story. It is short and good.
BigComfyChairBookReviews If you're still wondering "We Have Always Lived in the Castle" is in a very similar style. If you didn't love Hill House I would skip it for now. "The lottery" is slightly different, mostly because it is so much shorter. It takes maybe 30 minutes to read, so I recommend it. I love Shirley Jackson and am a fan of pretty much all her works but I understand she is not for everyone.
