Goodreads asked Grace A. Johnson:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Grace A. Johnson For all those who long to write, I want you first to pray about it. Writing, becoming an author, is a long, hard journey. And you can't go it alone. If the Lord has placed within you the desire to write, then He'll help you through it.
But it won't be easy. You may not have the time you want. You may not ever be able to get past Chapter One. You'll want to give up. But don't. Because like all good things worth having or doing, you have to work at it. Little by little.
Practice makes perfect, they say. But nothing can ever be perfect. Same goes for books. I am what you call a "perfectionist". That means if I don't believe I can do something perfectly, I may never try. And if I do and it doesn't come out right the first time, I may give up. Or I may work at it for the next fifty years and never actually finish it, passing up an opportunity to put something that may actually be fairly good, or even great, out there for the world to see.
Never let perfectionism bog you down. If it's not good enough, then by all means, work at it. But if it's the best that you really can do, then you've done your best. And the Lord asks for no more. Because the more you work at it, the better your best gets.
Just remember, there is always room for improvement, but that doesn't mean you should give up something God has given you just because it will never meet yours or someone else's standards.
