A Goodreads user asked Jack Heath:

while writing hangman were you a fan of Robert Harris Hannibal Lecter character ?

Jack Heath Sorry it's taken me so long to notice this question! I've never read any Thomas Harris books, but I did see Silence of the Lambs when I was a teenager, and enjoyed it. The villain of Hunter is a bit like Buffalo Bill (I realised later.)
Hannibal Lecter was mostly a constrasting influence on Timothy Blake. Hannibal is the most famous cannibal in the world, and knowing readers would compare Blake to him, I did everything I could to make them different. Hannibal is highly educated while Blake is a high school drop-out, Hannibal is a psychopath while Blake is a mess of guilt and shame, Hannibal is a gourmand while Blake is more of a scavenger.
