I would listen to the podcast and forego the book. A lot more actually happened in the podcast than in the book. Maybe the book was good as a stand alone, but I was very disappointed after listening to the podcast.

Yes, I listened to the podcast and really enjoyed it. The book takes slightly different turns (same main characters and premise with some more details). Either way, both podcast and book are free-standing. You could enjoy both separately. I just went down the rabbit hole with the podcast, so I knew I was going to read the book.
