No. I have read Antigone and watched Oedipus Rex (in that order) and it made sense. It would help to read a synopsis of what happens in the first two to get a general idea of the politics and controversy that takes place in Antigone. I recommend the synopsis in Timeless Tales Of Gods and Heroes by Edith Hamilton.
