Why do struggle to finish this novel? This is the third time I have stalled out more than half way through. I just can't seem to care about this family...tell me: should I tough it out?

I am trying to read it again now and I have managed to finish only a quarter of the book. Its quite hard to relate with the characters for me and even the story seems to be set in an era or place that I have no association with. But I guess thats the beauty of reading, right? I want to get through this book this time, though it'll take me a while since I am quite slow with it to be able to understand the writing. Hopefully, I will!(less)
