I have a goofball question for you. You have a LOT of pipe and pipesmoking references in your books. What inspired this? The reason I'm interested is that I am a professional carver of fantasy-themed pipes, and have done this fulltime for the past 22 years now. In fact, if you ever need to know pipe trivia or info for any reason, just give me a buzz and I'll be happy to help.

Hi, Trever! Thanks!
I hope I haven't made a fool of myself due to a comprehensive lack of pipe-knowledge! You must have some pretty amazing pipes in your collection.
I mostly wanted it to help make things familiar, especially when it comes to our perception of the rock stars my mercenaries represent. I've seen Kirk Cobain chain-smoke through a half-hour interview, and a lot of musicians I've studied tend to smoke when they can't get their hands on another, less acceptable vice.
Also, personally, I just like writing smoking scenes. They give my characters something to do between lines. Having had many deep conversations with smokers, I find a lot of profound things are said after a long drag or a slow exhalation!
Thanks for reading my stuff!
Nick

Hey, Nick! I was so interested in Kings of the Wyld because of the RPG vibe it has that i've bought an american paperback and had it shipped here, to Brazil. And, after reading it, i had a NEED to recommend it to my friends, but, sadly, some of them don't speak english. Are you aware of any chances of the book being published here, in Portuguese? Thanks, man!

Oh, imagined them older, that is why I chose those actors. Like a lot your casting choices!. Ok, ok, final proposal I swear on it!... given how Nikolaj might be too recent in the minds of many as Jamie in a similar setting, I have this: Jude Law as Golden Gabe and Karl Urban as Clay Cooper, who else can be a kind/protector than the leader of the Rohirrim?. Thank you for taking the time to reply, I am truly honored.

Hi! When you start on a new book, do you have a story already in mind and characters or do you just have a character and a situation that you start writing from or any other starting point? I guess my question is: Whats your starting point, what do you have at the start of the writing process and what do you develop as you go along writing? Thanks!
