(view spoiler)[Okay. So I know i's like 4 years late to reply to the comment, but I have some stuff I want to say/talk abt with Verity. First, I wanna say how interested I was in the first couple chapters. I mean Colleen is an outstanding author! in the beginning when the description of the guy and the truck, "I hear the crack of his skull before the spattering of blood reaches me.". sent literal chills down my spine. Also, "I closed my eyes before his head went under the tire, but I heard it pop like the cork of a champagne bottle." this part of the first chapter was astounding, honestly.
So now, to talk more about my thoughts on the characters! I love how well each character was well developed throughout the book, and the descriptions of characters and their action were amazing! the part in about the middle of the book when they go to target and Lowen describes how she thought Jeremy's car would have looked like. Loved that description! Lowen is a great character, but throughout the book, I'd say she was most described (in my words) as lost. Every time she would read the manuscript, she'd explain why she put it down, and why she picked it up again. I do agree, curiosity definitely got the best of Lowen, but she never had a valid reason to keep reading the manuscript other than the fact that her curiosity had gotten the best of her. Jeremy was an okay character, I kind of pictured him with a mustache, though. Unsettling lol. Jeremy was just a suspicious character in the most respectful way possible. Verity was by far one of my favorite characters. Even though the book wasn't told from Verity's POV, we still got a good look at the kind of person she was, whether the manuscript was true or not. I think that Verity was misunderstood. I know it's boring, but I truly do believe that the letter she wrote at the end was the truth. Verity truly did care for her kids. She loved them to death! "Because even after you tried to choke me to death and you crashed my car into a tree, I can't find it in myself to hate you. You have always been fierce in your protection for our children, which is exactly how parents should be. Even if it means eliminating the parent who has become a threat to them. You truly believe in your heart that I am a threat to Crew, and even though it kills me to know you believe that It also gives me life knowing how much you love him.". This part from the letter is heart touching. The fact that Verity was willing to give up the 2 things she loved more than anything, for THEIR safety, is something only few people could ever understand.
I do think that Jeremy went a little crazy on Verity though. The car crash thing? The choking thing? I mean a simple police report would have done. But I'm not saying that I don't see where hes coming from either, and a lot of people are like, "I would have done the same thing if I was in his position!". Honestly, I wouldn't have done the same things. I think that Jeremy was in a heat-of-the-moment kind of mood so he went all rogue on his wife, but he should have thought about how his more than once attempted murder on his wife, (also the parent of his child) would affect Crew. I mean, the poor kid already lost both his sisters, the last thing he needed was to loose his mother too. our mothers are people we as kids, naturally follow the lead of. Usually if you don't have trauma, you probably still go to your parents about issues. But I bet you, you've gone to your mother/parents about something at least once in your life, even if it was the last time you ever did that.
I'm sorry if my opinions are hurting anyone's feelings, but feel free to talk to me abt your concerns/issues. Heres my insta: livkaye.6 (hide spoiler)]
