Roberta If you have to ask that question before reading a book, you had better go find something else to read.
Kayla I love how people preach about tolerance but the moment they think someone doesn't have the same views as they do they immediately start attacking the other person calling them an "ist" or "phobe". The fact they can't see their own hypocrisy is astounding. The question was a fair one and did not at all warrant the kind of comments it received. The attack was uncalled for. Considering she asked specifically if it was a minor or major plot element she would likely have still read it with only minor references. You do not have to agree with the choices people make in life or their religions. She did not attack anyone. She said herself that she can't relate to gay characters due to the fact that she, herself, is not (which many people obviously can't relate if they are not and would probably not enjoy reading it and would not want to spend the money on books which are a LUXURY to most and could better be used on one they CAN enjoy or for other more important things) and due to her religious views it likely makes her uncomfortable to read. I, myself, don't mind what people want to do with their lives as long as it isn't illegal. I'll read about anything as long as the book is actually good. But not everyone is the same way. She did not disrespect or attack anyone even after all of you decided to attack her when you didn't even know WHY she asked in the first place. It's none of your business WHY she asked. All you had to do, if you felt the need, was answer yes or no. You should honestly be ashamed of yourself if this is how you behave when anyone asks a question like this. Grow up.
Erin Why do you ask? Are you afraid you might develop some humanity and realize that romantic love between two people happens regardless of gender and social expectations?
Cendaquenta A romance between two men is a big part of the plot in the latter half of the book.
quinn I'm not sure whether your homophobic or just a queer person wanting representation but yes

Lise It's pretty much the point of the whole book.
Cylonsarecuddly Simple question requires a simple answer, without imagining and then critiquing the motivation.
The answer is yes.

Some people enjoy books more when they see something of themselves represented in the characters. Some people don't want to read about gay characters, although that is their loss.
Stephanie If you're interested in the book why does it matter whether any of the characters are gay?
Sandra Munro I was half way into the book before I realised that the main character is gay, which is the whole focus of the story. So, yes, very much major references to homosexuality.

Peter Smith Whether the characters are gay is totally irrelevant, it is a superb story about forbidden love.
Jules Lloyd The word Gay isn't used and neither is homosexual or homosexuality. The portrayal of relationships in this book is brilliant and beautiful.
kate Sorry you are getting so hated on just for asking a simple question. And it is a valid one, considering how little is revealed about the relationships in this book. It kind of sneaks up on you! I was probably 50 to 75 pages into this novel before realizing the main character was gay. Therefore, yes, there is reference to this and a romance between two men.
