So a bit more about this - doesn't the author of a book enter into a sort of relationship with their readers? aren't there implicit promises? if a book is a series - which this is - then isn't there an implied promise - the author says: "buy my book - give me money and readership and visibility and fans. Enter into the story - identify with the characters - care about them and their lives - and I will take you through the entire journey .. you (readers) give to me and I promise you a return." and to then abandon the readers - to leave them hanging out to dry.. what is that? Ars gratia Artis is lovely - but also crap. This is a deal made between the reader and the author - it has money attached - investment of time - and a return for both parties. to abandon your readers - shameful if not criminal. of course their could be reasons - illness - even death. and that's understandable. but no word at all - ? strange. makes you wish you could take back the time and money spent.
