I swear as I was reading one section was super familiar. Was the section about Mitchell in India bathing the man at the hospice published as a short story in the New Yorker in, like, 07?

Kathryn Scarborough I am stymied by this book at every turn, the plot is not sequential, chronological or ... and I keep thinking, well what's going to happen next and do I really want to slog through this to get to the end?
Elena Yes, the short story is called Air Mail, it was originally published in the New Yorker and is now a part of Eugenides's short story collection called Fresh Complaint.
Adrien The NYer is constantly publishing advanced chapters of novels and passing them off as short stories. Off the top of my head I remember them doing this with Jonathan Franzen's Freedom and Jonathan Lethem's Chronic City.
Nicole In the copy of the book I am reading, on the copyright page, it states that some excerpts of this story were featured in the New Yorker.
