Isla this book would not be that gory do to the fact that it seems to be targeted to 3rd 4th and 5th graders
Finnley I read it in 6th grade, and yes, parts are frightening, but that is how it should be to emphasise the topic. Definitely read this book.
Calliope I'm in 6th grade and I think it's fine to read.
marzzzzz It's not super gory. There is one part that when I told my brother about (he's in 5th) it scared him a bit, but I recommend reading it.
Anna I know this is an old question but for others that might be interested. I just read this to my 9 year old. He just finished 3rd grade. It's not gory at all and created a good learning opportunity for my son. We had good conversations several times throughout the novel.
Journ'e Hi Josuah, I'm also in 6th grade & I don't think this book is bad. If you can't take in the fact that your reading a book about a boy that gets shot by a police and dies, you probably shouldn't read it. But the book is for matures.
Karli Sherwinter My 6th grade daughter and I both read it. She was very upset to learn about kids her own age being wrongly killed by the police, but it wasn't too gory at all.
sienna You probably shouldn't read this yet
