The Other Einstein was similar to The Only Woman in the Room in depicting one dimensional women subjected to abuse by powerful men. While there are certainly elements of truth in each book, there was just no depth to the characters. The writing just felt flat. I haven't read Carnegie's Maid and I'm reluctant to do so based on these 2 books. Reading time is precious!

I'm disappointed by this book, too. I'm listening to it as it was passing the time on a long drive, but it's pretty tedious.

The book is based on the real life of Hedy Lamarr. It inspired me to read more by the author. Yes Carnegie's Maid is a worthwhile read. As a fan of historical fiction, I found The Only Woman in the Room to be fascinating. It has particular value because many of us knew her to be a beautiful Hollywood movie star. In reality she was also a very intelligent inventor. Although we were scheduled to book club this in March 2020, it's been shelved until when we can resume meetings again due to the Pandemic.
We met in September 2020 outdoors and had a chance to discuss the book. Hoorah!

I felt Carnegies maid was totally unbelievable. These books were just too lightweight for me with poor character development or unbelievable characters. Totally preferred Educated, Father of the Rain and so many others!
Robin Black
I read the other Einstein and I thought it was great. It showed a great man as being human with all the flaws that come with that. I love Einstein and I think he is a wonderful person and this story showed another human side to him. It is plausible.
Karen Lynn
I thought Carnegie's Maid was great. I just finished reading it.
Morgan
Since this is a fictionalized account of a real person's life - the person's life is the plot.

I enjoyed the The Only Woman in the Room and am reading it for the 2nd time so I can be up to date in our Book Club discussion. It is still holding my interest.
Because I like this book, I chose to read The Other Einstein and Lady Clementine. I would say that these 2 books changed my opinion of both Einstein and Chruchill - they were apparently egotistical and shallow men, even though highly respected by the majority. It made me wonder if they would have achieved what they did without these women. These 2 books were good but The Only Woman in the Room is still my favorite. I also intend to read Carnegie's Maid.

The Carnegie’s Maid was just okay - something to read when you’ve completed a truly dense novel and need a bit of rest while still reading. The main thing I remember about it was the correction pronunciation of Carnegie.
Karen Parker
The only other book I read was the Other Einstein - actually listened to the Audio Book. I thought it was excellent, showed a side of Einstein I hadn't been familiar with, gave historical context that was illuminating and I thought the premise and arguments were quite plausible
Laurie Lee
I really loved both of these, Carnegie , Einstein.

My book club read The Other Einstein and we thought it was good. I have Carnegie's Maid, but haven't read it yet. Her books are fictional biographies so there isn't much plot.
Heather
When I read Carnegie's Maid I thought it was based on actual events, then at the end I read it was based on the author's IDEA. I was SO disappointed! I wish the author had done more research and included more factual events in Carnegie's Maid.
Monica
The Other Einstein was good. Our book club read it and all of us enjoyed it. There are parts that talk about some scientific stuff that I skimmed over, but it is a good read.
Barb Bankard
I liked The Other Einstein, but was very disappointed in this one.
Debra
After reading all three of her books and comparing them to other historical fiction, I am realizing that there is a sameness to the books. I wanted more detail, but I know that to add that you need a longer book and that would not be tolerated by many readers.
Carolyn
I liked the Other Einstein better, but it was kind of a soap opera - wife of successful man ignored, and worse, he takes her ideas and passes them off as his own.
Brenda
I found The Other Einstein to be disappointing. I wrote up a fuller review of it both here and on Amazon. I am intrigued by the premise of both The Only Woman in the Room and Carnegie's Maid, so I plan to give both a shot. I am hoping for better.
