Goodreads asked Valerie Miller:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Valerie Miller The ability to touch peoples lives through your words.

To me, being a writer is just as good as being a motivational speaker! You have the opportunity to make a positive impact on people through your books. Think back to being a child and all the amazing stories you fell in love with. Is there a certain story that stuck with you all these years?

As a writer, you have the opportunity to bring others into your own world that you have created. You get to share with everyone the experiences you have created through your characters. You can take a horrible situation and find ways to show people that it will be OK. You can bring them into a world of fantasies and make them feel like it's real life! You can create characters that people both love and hate.

No matter if you are a Fiction or a Non-Fiction writer, you have the ability to allow others to relate. Even a hermit crab enjoys the company of another from time to time. It is always nice to know there are others out there who may think and feel like you. Just because you are reading about a fictional character, doesn't mean they aren't based off of real life.
