What is the point of Triffids? The book is pretty much a clean end-of-the-world scenario and Triffids seem a little bit tacked on. Is there a history about why author added something as unrealistic as them in the book? Was it to claim it was nature's revenge for humanity's treatment of it, or maybe pressure from editor to add monsters to make it more horror-like?
